APC keeps majority as Saraki swears in Rivers senators
Senate President Bukola Saraki
The swearing in of the three senators from Rivers State has increased the number of seats occupied by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to 63 and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to 44.
The trio of Osinachukwu Ideozu, Gorge Sekibo and Magnus Abe, who won last Saturday’s re-run elections in Rivers State, were sworn in during yesterday’s plenary.
While Sekibo and Ideozu are of the PDP, Abe is of the APC. With the swearing in, the APC has consolidated its majority with 63 seats; PDP 44, Labour Party (LP) 1 while the seat of the Anambra Central is still vacant.
The APC now has a seat in the South-east and another in the South-south as against what obtained when the National Assembly was inaugurated in June last year.
At the inauguration of the National Assembly, the APC had 59 seats and PDP 49. Only one seat of Borno Central was empty at the Upper Chamber
