Senate President Bukola Saraki
The
swearing in of the three senators from Rivers State has increased the
number of seats occupied by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to 63
and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to 44.
The
trio of Osinachukwu Ideozu, Gorge Sekibo and Magnus Abe, who won last
Saturday’s re-run elections in Rivers State, were sworn in during
yesterday’s plenary.
While
Sekibo and Ideozu are of the PDP, Abe is of the APC. With the swearing
in, the APC has consolidated its majority with 63 seats; PDP 44, Labour
Party (LP) 1 while the seat of the Anambra Central is still vacant.
The
APC now has a seat in the South-east and another in the South-south as
against what obtained when the National Assembly was inaugurated in June
last year.
At
the inauguration of the National Assembly, the APC had 59 seats and PDP
49. Only one seat of Borno Central was empty at the Upper Chamber
